Scanning is the main way to add your receipts in facturillo. You point the camera at the code on an electronic receipt, facturillo reads it and confirms the details with the DGI, and the receipt shows up in your list. The whole process usually takes a few seconds.
What happens when you scan
Every electronic receipt in Panama carries a QR code and a CUFE (Código Único de Factura Electrónica). facturillo can read either one: when the QR reads well, it takes the CUFE from there; and if the QR cannot be read, you can type the CUFE by hand. With that code, facturillo looks the receipt up at the DGI (Panama's tax authority, the Dirección General de Ingresos) to pull its real details: store, date, products, and amounts.
How a receipt moves along
The states a receipt goes through
While the DGI confirms the details, the receipt sits on a «processing» state. This is normal right after scanning and it almost always resolves on its own within seconds. When the DGI responds, the receipt reaches one of these outcomes:
Added: the receipt is ready with all its details and is now in your list.
In review: some receipts need an extra step. They are still added, they can just take a little longer.
Already added: that receipt was already in your account. facturillo avoids duplicating it.
Not read: the code could not be read or processed. You can try again or type the CUFE by hand.
When the QR cannot be read
Sometimes the QR is blurry, wrinkled, or poorly printed and will not scan. That is fine: you can type the CUFE by hand and facturillo processes the receipt just as if you had scanned it. And if you prefer, you can also add a receipt by taking a photo or entering the details yourself.
